The inclosed iteninerary was copied from the UP’s web site and gives a much more detailed timing and location guide, for those that will be in the area and want photos, you can plan early.

Hold on, Safety Valve, Here isd the full release from 11 April 2006,TRAINS Newswire. I had only posted what was the Schedule as UP had posted on the web site. THe article in TRAINS does mention a route through ARKANSAS, so they will also run back through this area, so that means a trip to Coffeeville . for me.Schedule

Union Pacific 4-8-4 No. 844 is going on the road later this month

OMAHA - Union Pacific’s 4-8-4, No. 844, will begin a 35-day, 10-state tour celebrating the railroad’s history and heritage beginning April 27, the railroad announced today.

The South Central States Heritage Express Tour will leave Cheyenne, Wyo. and travel to Denver with overnight stops in Denver; Sharon Springs, Salina, Herington and Pratt, Kans.; Guymon and Claremore, Okla.; Alamogordo, N.M.; Dalhart, El Paso, Alpine, Del Rio, San Antonio, Austin.
2nd part of trip[?] >> Palestine and Marshall, Texas; Kansas City, Mo.; North Little Rock and Russellville, Ark; and Fairbury and North Platte, Neb., before arriving back to its home base in Cheyenne on June 1.
A Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) transmitter has been installed on one of the cars that will travel with No. 844. The GPS system will be integrated with a map on UP’s Web site beginning the first day of the trip. Go to www.up

Awsome! I saw the Challenger back the last time it came through Austin and again when it went to Houston last summer but I have never seen the 844. Thanks for the information!
