Did GE Model U33C have a deadman pedal in its cab. I am specifically interested in the IC U33C’s 5050-5059 built in 1968 to see if this feature was in them.
From all the references I have seen, diesel locomotives have alerters, not deadman pedals. I think deadman pedals went out with the end of steam.
When the alerter sounds, the engineer has a set amount of time to move a control or push a special button to acknowledge that he or she is still alive and alert.
If no action is taken in the allotted time, the train is put into emergency stop.
Santa Fe’s 8500 class did not. (at least that rusting junk didn’t have that issue along with all the others)
On the CNW, the F7s & E8s all had deadman pedals. None of the pre-1993 hood (freight) units had any safety devices. The Metra F40PH units had a deadman pedal and some also had an alerter.
