I’m thinking about patching some CNW, SP, and DRGW lomotices to the Union Pacific patch. I would like to know where I can find some decent UP patch SD40T-2 and GP60 decals?
microscale might have the UP decals you’re after…
All of the loco’s I have seen had the yellow part painted on. Then you apply the decal. If that is what you are talking about. I don’t think anyone makes the whole decal itself. Is the pic below what you are talking about?
Microscale makes the patch decals for HO and N. The set includes the yellow square and the numbers. It also has some UP harolds on yellow patches.
Edit: Go to the Microscale homepage and find the railroad section. Type “patch” into the search bar and it will give you a list of what they have to offer. The following decal sets are at the bottom of the list.
60-4328 “Diesel Renumber Patch ex. SP, CNW, DRGW” N scale $5.25
MC-4328 “Diesel Renumber Patch ex. SP, CNW, DRGW” HO Scale Minical $4.00
Yes that’s what I’m talking about. Where did you get that SD40M-2 locomotiv? Microscale dosen’t have that much numbers of UP SD40T-2s and GP60s.
as for the numbers, you might have to get “creative” with the cutting…
eg if you have 2726 and the loco series went 2600-2800, you could also have locos 2762, 2672, ans 2627. (I’m no expert in UP numbering schemes… so this might be way off)
There is more pics below with the PROTOTYPES.
It’s a KATO SD45. I bought it from Ebay
HERE IS A KATO AC4400
HERE IS AN ATLAS GP40
How do you get creative with cutting the UP numbers
Not having used the microscale decals before, I assumed that the numbers would have been in 2 or 4 digit inrements (as opposed to a couple each of 0-9).
so for example if there were numberboards to give you 2726 (that you cut out in a block), you could move the numbers in that ‘block’ around to make other numbers… of course this entire assumption is a moot point if the decal sheets are et up as something like “0000 111 222 3333 444…”
Here’s the decal: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MD&Product_Code=MC-4328&Product_Count=&Category_Code=
It’s got all kinds of comboos you can mix and match to get the numbers you need.
