Union Pacific sd 9

Model Railroader Prototype information for the modeler

Hi all:

I want to superdetail an N Scale Union Pacific SD 9 and despite surfing the Internet have so far been unable to locate any prototype photos.

Any help out there?

You can’t find any prototype photos because there weren’t any! UP never owned an SD9. UP DID have 10 “sister” units, the 1500hp SD7. They started as branchline service and as ore haulers then ended up as “trimmer” units in large yards. The SD7s served as UP 450-459 for most of their careeers.

I just glanced at the Utah Rails web site and I did not see any listing for SD9s for Union Pacific. They did mention a few SD7s. This is the link that I looked at:
