Unions and Management conflict of interest

One quick thought on this topic. When i worked for CSX, aka chicken s**t express in the early 80s i was amazed how some middle managers were still allowed to retain union membership. On our roster of members you would have “members” holding official positions I E cheif engineer, Production foreman, even president of the company it seemed. So how could Mr Rank and File get a fair shake.

Answer…work hard, put in a full day of real work, don’t go out of your way to look for things to gripe about and don’t look for the union to bail you out every time you screw up and things will be just fine.

PS: Waiting for the backlash!

The same way you got your union membership. They earned it. Would you rather work for someone who had not come up thru the rank and file.[?][2c] As always ENJOY!

rrandb My point is how could they retain Union memnership and be management? Seems like a conflict of interest in the sense that they are playing both sides of the fence. They all have the same interest a profitable company. I hope!

Generally management with union seniority are considered on leave from the union and do not have the right to vote in union affairs while holding a management position. If such a manager is fired or laid off it is usually framed as a command to “exercise your seniority”.

In our union it’s by keeping his dues and taxes current. This maintains there senority if or when they return to the rank and file when upper management shrinks there position. Be nice on the way up as you never Know when you will go back down. I would much rather the president held a union card than a business degree.I would be pleasantly supprised if there are any tho.
