There is a huge UPS distribution center in Richmind California that has a small yard with mi-jack cranes. Does anybody know how often a train leaves there, who has the contract UP or BNSF and does the train go out over Donner, through Pittsburgh and Antioch or down through Niles?
That is along BNSF tracks. Notice the two locomotives in ATSF paint switching the facility. I suspect this is the BNSF location called North Bay.
Also, have a look at the BNSF yard and UPS facility at Willow Springs, IL.
I believe it was within the last two years Trains did a great story about UPS and BNSF…I was suprised to learn that the Vans arrive on piggyback, are craned off, drayed to the loading docks, unloaded into the sort facility, the vans are reloaded with sorted packages, taken back trackside, reloaded and sent on their way…
I seem to reacall that it was like a 12 hour cycle…could have been 12 hour in/out cycle on the piggybacks, with a 24 hour cycle between arriving trains…gotta be a crazy place to be in the middle of all that!
110 eastbound 109 westbound are the ups trains on csx and you don’t want to make them late.
stay safe
