Well here’s the story: On Tuesday night a guy came to the park. I started to talk to him and he said he wanted a picture of 1996 and thought it would come from 12-6am. Now I was going to stay, but I’m like What the heck, I wouldn’t of go a good picture at night. So he stayed there ALL night. When I woke up I’m thinking he won’t be there. Now I came to the park around 9-10. That same guy was there! I asked him if he got the shot but he said he didn’t. It was coming through any minute! But I did miss the Rio Grande Hertage. That came through that night too. So I waited and sure enough, it came. And what a beautiful loco she was. WOW! It was also going pretty slow because they where working on the crossing. But when I got there tuesday night, I wasn’t thinking of that unit. I just wanted to go railfanning. So that was a HUGE bonus to the trip. I also added in the mix of pics a SOO SD60, a BNSF executive, and one of my best shots.
UP has to get some of the SSW Cotton Belt Route Heritage Repaint ACF Center Flow Hoppers behind the UP 1996 Southern Pacific SD70ACe to make a heritage theme train.
What I meant to say was The SOO unit came thorugh. MY cvomputer weas taking forever to load the images, so when I saw tha t you said the execuitive unit, I thought it was one of the demo schemes that BNSF has. My bad. Nice Pix!!! I am still waiting to see 1989 and 1996, but I think it will happen soon. Keep it up!!!
Well, I dont know what you guys up north call them ,but to Texas railfans its just another Grestien Green machine…Their on coal trains here every day ! How many pics of them would you like? Danny
I agree that the UP1996 is the least attractive of the Heritage units. Ugly may be in the eye of the beholder, but when I first saw a photo of this one, I thought they would have been better to just use the Black Widow scheme, one of the classiest diesel paint jobs of all time.
For the record, my vote for best looking UP Heritage scheme is that of C&NW, mainly because they adhered closely to the original.
