I spotted UP cars #3646 and 15082 which appeared to be a power car and a baggage car in passenger train colors as a part of the southbound freight heading towards Little Rock today on the old MP main.
Murphy’s law sez when something unusual happens you wont have a camera at hand.
Can any one tell me about these two cars?
Proably in the steam program. The baggage car proably carries the eqipment needed to keep teh steeam engines maintined on the road. The power car would be used to provide heating and cooling and lights for the passenger cars.
I thought most steam engines had a generater on them, since electric equipment was used on the locomotives?
Hmm. The freight that pulled these cars were like a long one with a multi unit lashup. The two cars were at the end of the train with a empth gon behind it carrying the EOT device.
the steam train is pretty well tied up in the Northwest right now - near Portland. So I don’t think these are supporting the steam program. Headed south, they might be target for use in some of the post Katrina reconstruction efforts.
