Did any one see the Pentrex ad on the back of April’s Trains? It show the 3985 renumbered to 3967. Did Union Pacifc renumber the Challenger? Or was this done for some other reason?
It was done in 1991? for the 40th? anniversary of the first UP Steam Excursion, which was lead by the origonal UP 3967. So when this historic date rolled around, UP renumbered 3985, gave her some elephant ears and let 'er rip. It was only for that run though, and it was renumbered back to 3985 soon after.
