Greetings,
Got up this morning and the weather was perfect. Plus there was talk off a “Special Paint” consist to be rolling through Illinois today on the UP. Again UP is getting the railfan all nuts with these unique consists. Running eastbound was the UP #2002 and #2001 the locomotives painted for the 2002 Winter Olympic Torch train, plus UP #3300 specially painted for the “United Way”. So pretty much the entire fleet of special painted UP locomotives except for the Heritage units. So I headed south to catch some of the action. Below are some photos of the “Special Paint” consist.

Eastbound at Howard Road about 3 miles west of Elburn, IL

Eastbound from Hwy 38 overpass just west of Elburn, IL

interesting, but wasnt UP 1995 the one in the middle? what happened to that?
Keith,
Great shots as always. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, Keith, those are some very good shots! I also want
to say Thank you for sharing them with us!! Keep up the
good work.
Greetings,
Thanks for the nice comments about the photos. About the UP/CNW 1995 it appears that the problem with the cab air conditioning has sent the 1995 out to North Platte, NE for repairs. So they put the #3300 in between the Olympic units. So hopefully UP/CNW 1995 will be returning to the Midwest soon.
Keith
I caught MCBPR in Elmhurst yesterday afternoon, after work; was in the company of some railfams from my old stomping grounds in Michigan. Sent them to the hobby shop before heading home (hi again, Charlie!).
The entire lashup was waiting for me when I arrived work this morning; it went out west again on MPRCB.
As for the 1995, it’s reportedly going from North Platte to St. Louis. It could come back to Proviso on MASPR after it gets there.
