I heard a rumor, and it’s just a rumor from a UP guy that UP was selling the Peoria Sub south of Edelstein Illinois Midland (might not be the right line) Does this move make sense?
The peoria sub on the UP hauls a lot of the coal Trains for Amerin Cilco. It might not be the right line. If I remeber correctly Up Peoria Sub does not connect to Edelstein, but I could be wrong.
JJ, where have you been? There have been a couple of threads here–and recently–about the new connecting track at Edelstein between the UP Peoria Sub and the former ATSF main line. It’s there, it’s open, and it’s hot stuff.
As to the rumor, I’d like to hear something authoritative. The Illinois & Midland might make sense, because a lot of the coal trains on this line go to the I&M at (or for) Crescent. There are still some manifests down to the St. Louis area on this line (one from each direction coming down from Nelson, IIRC); I’m not sure whether UP is willing to give up this alternate Chicago-St. Louis route.
However, it might be significant to note that the normal position for the switch to the connection is for the connection, not for the Peoria Sub.
Well, you will have to forgive me, when I was there I working for the TPW and not directly the UP. I havent really kept up with the railroad in Illinois since Illinois was such a bad bad bad experiences for me. I have decided to stay in my home state. The Great State of Texas.
