I hear that UP SD70Ms #2001 and #2002 have been repainted into standard UP colors at Jenks. These two SD70Ms wore paint schemes to commemorate the 2002 Winter Olympics. I guess they have new road numbers too, which I guess are UP #4690 and 4691?
I hope UP doesn’t repaint their heritage SD70ACes like this several years down the road.
Maybe CN or CP should have a loco painted for this year’s winter Olympics in Vancouver, though UP is the only railroad who’d do this if this year’s winter Olympics were in the US instead of Canada.
Up 7605 has been repainted into yellow paint. The heritage units when brought in for overhauls will be repainted as well. This was in Trains magazine a couple of issues back.Glad I could see all of the special units when I did.
Neither of the UP Olympic units has been restored to its original number in the SD70M sequence yet. If you can find references to UP 4690 and 4691 on any active roster, that’s when to start spreading rumors that might have a chance of credibility.
Meanwhile, you can begin to watch for UP 2010. It’s a renumbered GEVO (from somewhere in the 7400 series), which will be repainted into a paint job celebrating the Centennial of the Boy Scouts of America. Be Prepared!
