UP steam shop says 844 will run this year
And how long has it been since any of them last ran?
No. 844 has the distinction of never being retired. It has run in the past few years.
Maybe never removed from the UP roster, but she sure hasn’t been steaming for a couple of years now…

Not the first time 844 has been down for a couple of years. These machines take a lot of work and there aren’t many anymore who can work on them.
Still going strong! The UP Steam Program continues! Awesome!
Will be great to see the old girl back in steam again. Hats off to Union Pacific for making this possible for the enjoyment of us all.
Oh boy. I can’t wait to see it run hundreds of miles away from me once again like it ALWAYS does! It’s like they don’t even remember they got a bunch of routes from CNW…
Max the reason for that is when they last ran steam into Chicago was a security nightmare, the reason being the only fenced in area they could store the train is in West Chicago.
