UP officals finally realizing that the heriatge steam program was a huge drain on the bottom line have to SCRAP the only steam engine never retired by its original owner the FEF-3 844 along with the largest operating steam engine in the world the Challenger class 4-6-6-4 3985. Furthermore they are getting rid of the 3 unit set of E-9’s that were rebuilt just a few years ago along with the only running DD40X the 6936. When asked why they were dong this the offical stated why should we care about what the public and a few railfans think about us the largest railroad in the US.
whatever. the steam doesnt go to Wisconsin. why should i care? UP likes to use the steam program as an excuse to why the railfans shouldnt be mad that their favorite road’s motive power got repainted or patched. guess what, UP. all the CNWs are gone and i’m mad! it isnt working! grrr
This one just about got me. When I first saw the topic, I thought “Man, good thing I saw the 6936 a few weeks ago…” Then I remembered the topic of the day…so it almost got me.
Today, April 1, I saw the two remaining CNW units on an east bound freight headed by the UP’s CNW heritage unit (and trailed by some CP engines) going through Lombard IL on the way to Proviso. So the CNW is not entirely dead yet – nor is someone’s determination to keep “The Trio” alive and together!. Sorry no photos since I shoot film but Keith Schmidt was there with his digital camera and perhaps he will post what he shot (It was dark and rainy)
Everyone as the one who came up with this thread I am sick of it already as it has turned into a UP bash already I almost emailed bergie to have him delete it. I came up with this one as a JOKE due to the day that it is can we all just get along for one day at least. If not go to the shooting range put up a target of your least favorite RR logo as your target and BLAZE AWAY just quit doing it on something that was meant as something funny and we wonder why Mookie does not come on the forum as much as she used to.
