G day all, Can somebody please tell me what it would cost to send two HO wagons to Australia from Oklahoma city via UPS expidited. I have a quote for US$93 seems awful high to me for approx 1lb package. Regards Les.
Might want to try the mail, several expedited services and would be well under that price.
That sounds outrageous – why do you need them in such a hurry? U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail or Express Mail, if available to overseas addresses, would probably be a lot cheaper and almost as fast.
Time and distance both cost. The mail will not be as quick but should be less expensive. My wife mailed a cell phone to a friend in England from Michigan a few years ago for about $35 and transit time was about two weeks. It may be longer from Australia due to the distance. You could also check Internaional Airmail for costs which would expedite transit time. Part of the cost with UPS may be “broker” fees for filling out customs declarations which I do not believe would be applicable with most Post Offices. I would shop some other alternatives because $93 sounds a little dear!

Go to usps.com and check the pricing, you should be able to get a reasonable idea.
If it’s 1 lb., it could probably be sent via global priority mail(through the post office), which is extremely fast and relatively inexepensive. The quick quote that I ran on the website listed the cost for a 1 lb. package shipped to Australia as $11 and taking 4-6 days. If by some chance it won’t go priority mail, air parcel post is only $14.50 and takes 4-10 days.
Here’s a link to the quote page I pulled up

I recently sold a Westerfield box car on eBay to go to Ontario Canada. The car was $75 and the eBay estimate of UPS was $72! USPS Air was a little over $10. No brainer here.
I recently shipped a tender to Australia. $11 USPS Global Priority. He had it 5 days later.
yes, go to the ups web site and you can figure it yourself, pretty close anyway …
for fun, I just did … from Oklahoma City, OK to Sidney (postal code 2059), 1lb package, value $100 USD, UPS Worldwide Expedited is $65.97 and it takes 6 business days or less.
but , it also says that Worldwide Express for that Postal code is the same price and you would have it in 3 days.
You really need to do this yourself at thier website,I’m sure that there are places in Australia where the price would be higher. Right? All the aircraft probably fly into Sidney.

I won the two cars on Ebay,.A baggage car and a box car. The store will not use anyother form of transport . The two cars which are collectables cost US$25.26, the freight US94.61. Over the last 18 months I have had several packages come to Australia at not even half this price. USPS Air letter post costing US$11 to US$18 average is my normal mode of freight and here in 6 to 10 days and never had any trouble or lost any thing even from the North Pole in fact. Thanks for the input . Regards Les
Hi Les,
The other issue with UPS is that they never fail to pass on import duties. If Aus duties are worked out similarly to the UK, the shipping charges are also factored into the duty calculations.
I learnt quickly on ebay… ALWAYS find out the shipping charges before bidding [;)]

The way I see it, you didn’t “win” anything. You got royally screwed! It’s absolutely vital that those who insist on playing the eBay game carefully check ALL the shipping information before placing a bid. Check both the costs and the method of delivery. Many eBay sellers are really ripping off buyers on shipping charges. And if a U.S. seller won’t ship an international order via U.S. Mail, avoid bidding on that item altogether. Anything I don’t do eBay, but I’ve sold trains to folks all over the world. Anything I have ever shipped to Canada or overseas has gone by mail, and I’ve never had a complaint from any buyer in regard to price or delivery time.
I can relate to that as I’ve bought through Ebay from Canada England an the US and as stated the North pole from a US serviceman and have had no trouble . It was just that these were 40 & 50th aniversary cars not generally available and certainly not here, for something special I thought I would give it a go . Under 12mths ago I used UPS cost was US$45 to me for a AC4400 from New York so wasn’t expecting this price tag. thanks
I send stuff to a friend in Sydney at least once a month, and use USPS Global Priority Mail. It works out to about $8/lb, and if I mail it here Friday, she gets it the next Friday. Not bad, considering that you lose a day going over the dateline.
$93 for UPS? Crikey!!
UPS has never advertised that they were cheap, just fast and dependable. That’s why I use the post office. I sent two identical packages to Halifax NS Canada from Houston, Tx. USA, the UPS took 12 days and the Post office took 6.
Its the store that won’t ship via any other method that is the problem, and will not enter into discussion on changing to USPS as they have had trouble. It sure sat me on my but when I seen the 93 sorry US $94.16 shipping.Thats a lot of hobby dollars down the drain that could be spent on more equipment.
Despite the derogatory remarks about both the U.S. and Canadian postal services, I’ll use them over UPS any day. UPS charges [bold]way[/bold] too much for their services and they add in broker fees on top of it. By mail, they either deliver the parcel by truck and collect duty and federal tax at the door or pass it on to the postman and send me a bill. Shipping costs are reasonable and it doesn’t take forever to get here–it just seems that way.
You know, something is worth only what the market will bear. Looks like the market bore the hell outta them things.
