The map and it’s annimation needs to be overlayed with the growth of the Interstate Highway system during the same period of time.
I agree that it would be very instructive to correlate this with the growth of Interstate Highways. But that really means the timeline should start a long time before 1962. It should include the highways built under the W.P.A. in the 1930’s, the Pennsylvania Turnpike (the first “super highway” in this country), etc. Inclusion of airline competition would be interesting and possibly instructive too.
