USA Trains Hudson locomotive

the locomotive is beautiful with lot of power. my problem as other had, was with the smoke unit who shorted out in the boiler and damaged the main board and the sound system as all the lights. it only runned about 1/2 hour and the trouble started whem we turned the smoke unit on. so far i had to paid for new parts myself and the repair to the sound board. usa replaced the smoke unit free but not other damaged parts. the cost to send back to usa was over $70.00 so i decided to fix it myself. my other problems was the wire plug from the tender came apart when i first get it out.it is the first time i have problems with any of usa and other locomotives from other manufacturer. i am starting a tranportation museum and i have at least one of every locomotive made in g scale thank you

This is a wonderful locomotive, has superior pulling power and the sound quality is great. It pulls an 8 car USA CP Streamline Passenger set without any problems. I have installed a LGB MTS Decoder III without difficulty. If you like steam you need this loco on your layout. I have run the smoke unit and haven’t had any problems.

In my experience there is no way this locomotive performs well on 8’ radius curves as advertised. On 10’ radius reverse curves it derails constantly. I would suggest 10’ radius at minimum and 12’ would be recommended. Otherwise a very nice machine.

I have had several problems with the smoke unit. Does not put out the type of smoke I would like for an outdoor locomotive. I have had the smoke unit replaced twice under warranty. USA Trains system of part ordering is so out dated. I replaced the stock smoke unit with a Aristocraft new unit. Worked great for about 2 years, then it shorted out and burned up some wires and other electrical parts that has cuased me to great concern. Now I have to try and scramble and replace the parts so I will be able to run this beast again.

I have just bought a USA Trains Hudson, have run it for approx 2 hours, very pleased. Sound is great, hauls well, 10ft is the minimum, even then the track has to be perfect, I had to take out an Aristo-Craft Re-Railer, it seemed to derail the Hudson. I would say this is the best running loco I have had, yes it is a lot more money than most, but worth every cent. I generally run Narrow Gauge, this is an exception to the rule. Top marks to USA Trains

I am a little late to the party on this review, partly because I just purchased a J1e Hudson #5344 at the East Coast Train Show on Sept. 24th, 2011. It had some time on it and was assured by Mike, one of the guys from USA Trains, that she was a runner. I told him jokingly, “I’m taking it right home to run it.” when I got home I did just that. I was very impressed with the J1e, the way it was packaged, the way it looked, and the way it ran. I’m not impressed with the smoke unit, but have been researching custom made smoke units that literally pour smoke like a real J1e. All in all, I’m very happy with my purchase.
