I’ve read several posts about using decal paper. What I’m picking up is that you cannot print white without a special printer. When using a inkjet or laser printer, does white come out “clear” on the decal?
Use white paper and print the background non-white.
You can get either clear-backed or white-backed decal paper. White-backed paper will look pretty much like regular white paper after printing, while clear-backed will be clear everywhere except where you’ve printed non-white stuff.
The trouble with white-backed paper is that you have to trim off any unwanted white space around the outside of the decal. With clear-backed decals, you only need to get close to the image, and the unprinted part of the decal will just blend in.
When I have something that’s got white, or even a light color, I print the decal on clear-backed paper and paint a white area on the model, the size of the decal. Once the decal is applied to the white background, the original light colors and white areas are restored.
Thanks for the replies. As for painting the area under the decal white, I remember having to do that with Microscale numberboard decals. Or the numbers would be body color.
