I am in the process of painting/weathering my water tower, (Town water supply) and on the base that will be concrete there are some metal plates where the legs and the pipe down the middle are aginst the concrete. I don’t want to paint them concrete color, and was wondering if I could paint the Latex Rubber on the metal plates then air brush the concrete pad then remove the Latex Rubber to reveal the metal plates. Will this work? Thanks Mike
How about a coating of Vaseline before you airbrush the base? That should just wipe off, and it’s a lot easier than latex.
I’ve used latex for custom plaster molds. It takes a while to dry, requires several coats to build up a mold, and it smells up the house.
But, I don’t have an airbrush.
Mr. B I find it hard to believe you don’t have an airbrush. With all the good looking work you do and without an airbrush! WOW. Mike
I’ve been wondering this myself. Thin it down and use it like Micro Mask. I don’t know if the paint would leech under it.(be curious to see the replies)
How about rubber cement? That has been used for years to simulate peeling paint on structures. It just rubs off with a finger afterwards.
Rubber cement is indeed the stuff one uses for exposing under coats. Paint Silver, dab on the cement where you’d like the undercoat to show thru paint with finish coat and rub off cement when dry.
Thanks for the replies, I am going to go down in the workshop and give it a try. worst comes comes to worst, All I will have to start over. Right? Mike
