Does anyone know if the Bachmann Spectrum 0-6-0 is dcc ready? I need plug and play for dcc and sound. I’m not really ready to tackle soldering yet. Soon perhaps, but not yet.
Don’t be afraid of soldering, its very easy once you get over the fear, lol. I went on Bachman’s website and its kind of confusing. Their forum has a few threads and those guys say they are. Does the box say DCC ready on it?
If its the Bachmann 0-6-0 Saddle Tank , it needs soldering.

I do not believe this is the saddle tank you are referring to, but maybe…
Soldering is a nessesary skill in Model Railroading. We use it in many aspects.

I know. But right now I’d like to get things started and work on my skills, or lack thereof, later!
Your reference is to a Bachmann Standard 0-6-0 with slope back tender. This is not Spectrum. This engine is not dcc ready. You probably need to isolate the motor from the frame and solder a dcc decoder (or better a dcc socket).

Ouch. Thanks for the info.
If it’s the Bachmann standard with the slope back tender, it’s not worth the cost of a decoder. In my experience there’s nothing that can be done to this engine to make it run well enough to justify conversion to DCC. DCC is not a cure-all for a poor performing locomotive.
Have you looked at some of the Proto offerings?
