Does anybody know something closer about NdeM´s Aztec Eagle???
When was this train inaugurated and discontinued?
What was the routing of that train?
What cars were used?
Did this train also have dome cars?
What colours did the cars have (from the outside)?
Which motive power was used on it?
Did it have any through cars to cities in the US?
The NdeM AZTEC EAGLE was inaugurated August 7, 1953 using three streamlined Swiss built sets of streamlined equipment between Mexico City and Nuevo Laredo. From the beginning their was problems with the trucks on the Swiss built cars and all were eventually replaced with used trucks from other North American built cars. It was originally intended for through streamlined sleeping cars to operate between St. Louis and Mexico City but this never came to pass.
For a few years their was heavyweight sleeping cars operating through between Mexico City and San Antonio where connections were made with the TEXAS EAGLES.
I find no mention of these through sleeping cars after 1955…
The AZTEC EAGLE never operated domes.
The original Swiss built streamlined cars were red with a cream window band.
The motive power of choice in Mexico seems to have been FP-7s from EMD.
Will have to do some more digging but do have listings of the Swiss built nine car consists.
Hope this information is helpful.
between 1928 and 1948 their had been uninterupted through sleeping car service between St. Louis and Mexico City.
