Ventura County wrestles with rail corridor’s future

Why don’t you just sell it to Fillmore and Western, outright, and then you won’t have any responsibility at all, Commission? If you don’t have the railroad in your “heart”, then stay away from it. Hacks.

That’s good news that the rail line will not be turned into a yuppie bike and hiking trail. Hasn’t UP shown any interest in bringing rail service to the remaining packing houses? Typically railroads don’t want that business and more trucks are forced on our highways.

From my experience growing up in Los Angeles County and, many years later, working into retirement way up north in Trinity County, I learned that local government is lost if it does not lose money. Therefore I would have to concur with Mr. Lester; sell the right of way to the Fillmore & Western. Then allow them to establish freight service since Uncle Pete probably has no desire to serve local businesses. After all, they do not create unit trains.

IS THIS THE SAME F&W THAT HAD SUCH A GLOWING OUTLOOK JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO? MOVIES, TV SHOWS, EVEN FUTURE FREIGHT CUSTOMERS.

Why is it GOOD news that it won’t be turned into a trail. No trail, and the ROW is gone FOREVER.

They need to extend Metrolink from E. Ventura to Santa Paula or something while F&W maintains weekend excursions. I think Metrolink service to connect with the F&W would boost revenue & hopefully profits.
