VIA RAIL

What does “VIA” stand for ? Life? Thanx

“Via” was Latin for highway, or road.

“Vita” was Life.

There may be other roots to the name of the Canadian passenger company, but this is probably the most significant.

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VIA_Rail

“The bilingual name VIA or VIA CN originated in 1976 as a marketing term for Canadian National’s passenger train services and the VIA logo began to appear on CN passenger locomotives and cars, while still carrying CN logos as well. That September, VIA published a single timetable with information on both CN and CP trains, marking the first time that Canadians could find all major passenger trains in one publication. In 1977, CN underwent a dramatic restructuring when it placed various non-core freight railway activities into separate subsidiaries such as ferries under CN Marine and passenger trains under VIA Rail which was subsequently renamed VIA Rail Canada.”

Wow…you’re on the way to becoming the next nanaimo72. [^] Thanks for all the information!

I have no intention of being the next anybody, just me, wee, little old me [:D]

I like to help promote the Canadian railway scene whenever I can, so these are no big deal.

Just do not ask me anything about UP, BN, GN, CR, SP, ATSF, etc, etc, etc because I do not have a clue! [%-)]
