great idea for legsn neveer tried building them like that yet - will next time!
THANK you
David, nice installment. Lived in Illinois? Glad you saw the light to move to God’s Country - Wisconsin.
Great advice on using “clear select” lumber David. The better quality wood is well worth the money when you don’t have to dodge knots and other imperfections later on. The “clear select” also has more consistent strength qualities as well. I also recommend a simple clear finish, such as General’s Arm-R-Seal urethane topcoat be applied to the completed legs and framing to seal the wood and protect it against moisture induced warping.
You make great videos. There really helpful and help to show techniques that can be hard to understand just by reading. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you
I keep an eye on the price of F2S nominal 3/4" plywood. When the plywood is on sale I can buy a couple of sheets, and rip them into 3" or 4" boards. The result is “lumber” of very high quality, always as straight as I can cut it, strong, no knots and price competitive with kiln-dried dimensional lumber.
good advise about wood.
Looks cold to me. Burr. Need to start up a nice coal fire. Time to put the Virginian to work.
frist thanks for using home deopot.this looks like i will enjoy another mr.thanks
great learned something
great idea we are building a project layout at the hobby shop I work at in Duluth MN we will use some of your ideas thanks
Just the right amount of demonstration without going into boring detail. Very easy to understand.
very good carpenter.
Many thanks for this method of building legs! I’ll be building my layout this winter, and will definitely use this technique.
Consistent practical helpful useful video productions! One of the main reasons I stay with MR!
For many years I entertained the idea of a coal road. Thanks to Model Railroader magazine I had alot of ideas. This article brings back many memories.
So far, so good. I can’t wait to see the next episodes. Question though, the layout is mounted on casters…what if the floor is uneven? Wouldn’t some sort of leveling system be better since many basements (mine included) where a layout would be have rather uneven flooring?
Nice leg design. How far off the floor will the layout be and for the casters how much weight did you plan on when buying the casters?
Hi David, You’ll never go wrong by using #1 Pine.
This will be great I’m starting my N scalr layout and was not sure about the bench work. Was thinking sections so it counld be built else where and assembled in a finish bedroom. Thank you for showing these projects I learn so much. Keep up the good work.
