Video Extra: New York Central steam around Buffalo

I just love this. I am old enough to have seen steam live and well in the Iron mines of Minnesota.

Thank you for presenting the video. Very nice, and the story boards look good.

Interesting footage, but wold be better with sound.

This was excellent! A real trip down nostalgia lane. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

I think Mr Furminger did a great job considering his equippment and age. You can see his love for trains coming through his film. Hope to see more of his work.

Great Video!

Considering that film is the good old Kodachrome and over 60 years old, I’m amazed at how good these scenes look. Freddie, you had a good eye for cinematography, not panning all over the place, just letting the action fill the frame as it happened. Truly a fine glimpse into the past.

Great video, but it breaks my heart to know this locomotive, and too many others like it, were just summarily scrapped.

Sounds like a very interesting video, but all I get is “No playable sources found” message

Great video, too bad so many of the steamers went to the scrapper instead of being preserved by museum’s or individuals as we miss them all now.

What a great piece of film. Wonderful action that takes you back.

I liked the video a lot. I am old enough to remember seeing steam in the Chicago area, just before is disappeared in the mid 50’s.

It’s always nice to see historical rail action from MC/NYC in the interesting Niagara and Ft. Erie areas.

I remember steam locomotives when I was a small child, and happy that this film was preserved.

It would have been fantastic if “train sounds” were dubbed in.

Very “work-a-day”. Just a railroad doing its business. I think it’s a welcome change from publicity type shots of a a train speeding down the mainline with very little connection to the community around it. Well-done.

Great vid.; am big NYC fan. Lived in suburb of Buffalo entire life;father was CENTRAL conductor 42 yrs. ; never saw steam in the area even though we crossed into Canada/Fort Erie during summers. We lived 3/4 mi. from old Gardenville Yd. ; could occasionally hear sounds from all the yard activity , especially at night…just don’t remember any steam engines…lots of diesels though… 1950’s…great times…
