Thanks for posting the video. I used to live in Hesperia for approx. 20 years and spent a lot of time watching trains there.

John

Glad U like it. That was a 03 video when trains came one right after the other. I went back this year & saw only 1 train in a bit over a hour. The crash & the long trains the UPRR & BNSF are running now have certainly had an effect on the route over the Cajon Pass

[:)]

Video is about 3 mins. 51 secs. long, but the train goes by in the first 1 min. 46 seconds - after that, the video seems ato be all dark ? Train is double-stacks on the front, piggy-back on the rear. It appears to have been taken just after sunrise, and pretty much ‘back-lit’.

Thanks for sharing.

I shot a lot of video on VHS of trains in the Hesperia area, as well as the Cajon Pass and Barstow. I haven’t looked at the tapes for years. I hope they haven’t degraded much over the years of being stored. If they are still decent I’m going to have to go through them when I get some time and try to put some online.

Yes it may not be 2010 quality but it does preserve them so long as YT hangs around. [:)]

Well I did not time the train from the time the 1st loco passes until the last car is somewhat further down the hill from where I was taping but I sincerely doubt I tape 2 minutes of nothing as your post indicates. As for the lighting it was 0600 or so I do not remember if the sun had yet come over the horizon [:)]

I don’t know much about the digital editing and uploading process, or what and how things can go wrong there, so I wasn’t saying that you taped 2 minutes of nothing; instead, just that the remainder of that clip, after the last car passed and the camera swung around to follow it - as I was viewing this video earlier today - seemed to be only a black screen. "I’m just calling 'em as I see 'em . . . ". With the entire train having passed by in less than the first 2 minutes, though, I’m not sure what else could be occupying 2 more full minutes of video . . . - Paul North.

I checked the video & that is some sought of glitch in YT where after I turn the camera from right to left there the video turns dark. My video that I posted terminated when the last car was going down the hill the rest of it is a glitch by YT. It has nothing to do with editing the tape etc it is just something that occurred on YT side which in this new world we live in occurs from time to time [:)]

OK, that’s kinda what I thought. I’ve seen and enjoy enough of your videos that I didn’t think that was intentional - but I didn’t know and couldn’t tell whether anything else should have been there, or not. So, I thought the best thing I could do was point it out and let other viewers know that they might be unexpectedly getting 2 minutes worth of quiet meditation time, or whatever else they want to do . . . a train image wasn’t too likely to appear while they waited, that’s all.

Thanks for running that down and letting us know. Looking forward to more videos !

Thanks for pointing it out as well in case somebody else queries it also. [:)]
