Vintage Marx 666 Loco on Fastrack

Does anyone know if a Marx 2-4-2 666 Steamer will run on the new Lionel Fastrack? I like the way that track looks compared to the old 3-rail 0-027 track. An additional factor is my 3 year old Grandson has the ThomasTank Engine with Fastrack while I have the old Marx Engine and was wondering there is any compatibility between these systems. Pardon my ignorance but the quest for knowledge brought me here and hoping someone more knowledgable than myself would this piece of information. I am new the forum and am reintroducing myself to this hobby after a nearly 30 year absence. I had a Marx 666 Locomotive set as a young child in the late 60’s and into the 70’s & 80’s and made modest expansion attempts to my set but was destroyed in a house fire in the 80’s. When my Grandson got his Thomas set it prompted me to search for my old set and found it on eBay. Maybe I should have just bought a new one but for sentimental reasons I chose to revisit my child with the exact set that I used to have. It has brought great memories. I spent countless hours with that train and now am trying to see if I can join the old with the new. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Andy

The thing about a Marx locomotive that would stop you is the “fat wheel”. Earlier Marx locomotives used a wheel with an integral gear that had the full diameter of the wheel flange, preventing it from getting through Lionel turnouts. I believe that the 666 did not have a fat wheel; so it very likely will run on Lionel track of any kind.

Give it a try!

Hello Andy[#welcome]…I had a couple marx locos as a kid and an them with no problem on regular lionel o guage track with the rest of the lionel stuff. I see no reason it wouldn’t run on fastrack they even make an adaptor piece to marry fastrack to regular O. Steve

I run my Marx 666, 333, 1829, and 1998’s on Fastrack without issue. Further all of these engines have gearing that allows them to pass through Lionel switches. I did have some issues with running Marx on MTH Realtrax. Realtrax has more of a “T” shaped rail, where Fastrack has a more traditional tubular shape to the rails. Enjoy Ken
