Hi, first time to use the forum. I have a somewhat old MDC 2-6-0 and a 2-8-0. Several screws are missing that hold the frame together and motor to the frame for the 2-6-0. Does anyone know the size of these screws. Better still does anyone have the assembly directions for these locos?
I will check some of my older MDC stuff. Most probably SAE screws for the older MDC. The new Roundhouse stuff is Metric, made in China.

Looks like 2-56 hardware. I just checked a MDC boiler.

Maybe, maybe not. He should probably link to the HOSeeker site you posted above to see if he can figure out which models he actually has. I took a quick look and for one of the 2-6-0’s it looked like the motor screw was metric, and for one of the 2-8-0’s the motor screw was 3-48.
My older MDC I have are from 1998 and have the plastic motor mount held in place by two 2-56 screws that the open frame motor snaps into. The boiler is held by a 2-56 screw. I just checked.
I suspect he has the even older larger open frame motor versions.

Rich,
hoseeker is fantastic!! I have boxes of HO trains and just starting to attempt serious work, after about 55 years. I think the 2-6-0 is the right one and the old timer consolidation seems to be correct. Wonder if any replacement parts are available?

Athearn now owns Roundhouse and all the stuff is made in China. The only locos they sell that are patterned after the old line are the 4-4-0, 2-6-0 and 2-8-0. The locos only come in batches and can be out of stock rather quickly at times. They also sell the EMD Critter and a 4-6-2. Watch out for old stock Roundhouse sound locos that have the MRC decoders. The locos will be coming with Tsunami decoders.

When you look at the HO Seeker site, there are diagrams for those newer locos that I scanned and sent to Larry at HO Seeker.
I have the older and newer stuff.
Some of the loco parts fit. The driver axles are now Metric and different size than the USA made MDC/Roundhouse.
Don’t bother asking about the old parts. All that stuff was sold off.
A company called River City Railroad bought the old stock and have been selling it on ebay. Mostly rolling stock kits and loco cabs.
There is also a Yahoo MDC Roundhouse Group.

I did look at an old open frame motor that comes in the MDC boxcab and I think it is the same motor that use to be in the other locos. Two screws hold the motor in place. One is about a #2 size sheet metal screw the attaches to the plastic part of the motor and possibly a 3-48 screw for the motor frame.
What kind of motors are in your locos?
Below is a photo of the 1998 2-6-0 and 2008 2-6-0 drives. The 4-4-0, 2-6-0 and 2-8-0 are identical in size.
Last I knew some of those parts might be available. Athearn does answer email.
Just remembered, those motors are available from River City Railroad for $5.00 for a pair. I find they run very well in my Roundhouse steamers. Double ended shaft, no flywheel or worm.
