Hi, how was the Virginian USRA 55ton hopper painted? Was there any difference early and late? I´´m interresed ca.late `50.
Thanks, Christian!

Really, dude? You started a different thread on this exact subject not two days ago:
Actually…he first asked for pictures or sources for VGN hoppers. Now he’s being specific and asking about changes in painting/lettering. Two different things so give him a break! Christian, the Virginian used the same lettering arrangement until the end (December 31, 1959) on their hoppers. You might check the N&W Historical Society website for photos. http://www.nwhs.org/ Good hunting! Roger Huber
tyco made some decorated for the virgian. They are one of tyco’s nicest cars with screw on trucks. you should be able to find them on ebay for 5-10$ each the problem is that there all the same road number:2106 the cars could easily be re-numbered
Those Tyco cars are the operating 2 bay cars. They were all painted in the silver with black paint scheme used for MofW service. They had the doors arranged to actually drop coal out the bottoms. As such they were not very accurate cars. The bodies were wrong too. A better car would be the Accurail USRA car or the GL hopper car done by Bowser. Revenue cars were all black with white lettering. Virginian ballast cars were gray with black lettering, they were not silver. The Tyco cars are incorrect.
