I am still in awe of this thing, and I suspect I always will be.
It was something unique (imo).
The real question - What was the business purpose it was trying to fulfill?
Not knowing the answer, but did the people who travelled on it enjoyed ‘being at sea’? The novelty of ‘Yes I have travelled on it?’
150 people each time could ‘take a ride’. Oh the excitement of the day.
Just like being on a Ferris Wheel or the Ghost Train, a novelty.
In 1825 some trains went round in circles. People paid for the pleasure.
Aside from a Blackpool Tower sort of novelty (and a very early celebration of electric traction)… did you see the Weymouth film? Volk’s was a ‘quayside railway’ that didn’t have any real-estate or permitting requirements…
I travelled on it twice. Great fun. (I posted them.)
I know you did. I wasn’t sure Balt had watched it.
There is another film of ‘Daddy Long Legs’ on YouTube. It has a number of pictures; all stills. Not sure about copyright though
