Walthers 130' Turntable and DCC

Hi I’m just in the process of hooking up my turntable (HO Scale) and was wondering if there are any who have hooked it up to DCC. I want to hook it up to Digitrax, can I use a DS54 stationary decoder to run the table?

Also with the access tracks runninng to the table would it be wise to use cork roadbed or would it be just as efficient to just mount the track directly on the 2" foamboard seeing as it will be a fairly large yard?

regards, Richard

Hi. You wire the grey control box as per the instructions. You power it using a power supply and hook it up to the indicated slots. Two other slots are for DCC feeders that come off your bus and terminate there. There is only one slot left, and that is for the white cord that goes between the grey plastic controller and the drive housing. I don’t see why you would want to use a decoder. Perhaps you can explain?

If your pit lip is quite flush with the layout surface when it is mounted according to instruction, you can just use small cardstock shims under the ties of the tracks that approach the pit from the yard. Start back about 12" and raise it until the rails will lie flat on the lip. Be aware that the track on the bridge is likely Code 83, so you might want to use transtion railing on the approach. Otherwise, use a Dremel thin grinding stone to grind a shallow groove in the lip for Code 100 if that is what you will use. Use a flat file to bevel the ends of the rails that lie on the pit lip to match the bevel of those on the rail ends of the bridge rails.

Maybe something in here will help you.

If I use the control box I will have to turn the table manually, but I want to hook it up to the stationary decoder so I can control it automatically with Winlok (if possible). Maybe I’m missing something with the installation.

Okay, you want some type of automation. What is Winlok? And how will you program it so that it anticipates what you want it to do? Every time, with different locos?

Winlok is a program used on a computer to automate your layout, it can run multiple locos hands free. It can do just about everything you want from turnouts, routing ,signalling ,detection , transponding etc. The DS54 is hooked up via a loconet and sends information as to turnout position etc. I’m just not sure if it is able to handle this application, although it is quite powerful.
