Walthers Airslide Covered Hopper Question

I have a set of 4 Walthers Single Bay Airslide Hoppers completed and three more to build.

I intend to place LL wheels on them to replace the plastic walthers wheelsets.

Do I use the flat black 33" wheels or a different size?

Since they are single bay, I would guess that they are 70 ton cars. If I remember correctly, 70 ton cars have 33" wheels.

These are 70 Ton capacity cars so 33" wheels will be perfect. The Genesis 33" wheels are a drop in replacement and look outstanding. If your prototype had Barber S-2’s then I would recommend the Kato truck. Again, an outstanding truck.

Thanks for the suggestions. I found that the orginal wheels were 33" and I dropped in the LL 33" wheels and they are in good shape.

I will be “breaking in” these cars soon and hope that the rebuild and additional weight assist in thier tracking.

These were just one of a few projects I completed this weekend in a burst of activity.
