Looking at this structure, I see that it comes with a rollup type door as an extra but has the older type wooden doors installed and they’re solid, i.e. don’t open…
I don’t see any way in except via the six screws on the bottom of the structure. My guess is that you have to take the screws out, the bottom off and then you can access the door from the inside. To use the ‘wooden’ doors they have to be cut with a hobby saw and glued open if you’re going to push a car into the building. Is this correct or am I missing something?
I’m guessing what you could do is glue dollhouse hinges to the doors and the doorways. I remember when I was in boy scouts I read about someone doing that with 1/24th scale model cars to make the doors and trunks open.
isn’t that the same , more or less, the same machine shop as AHM put out? If so, I assume it’s either doors open or doors shut. Besides, the car in the photo is usually used hauling lumber(I’ve heard of them early being used to haul “baskets” of auto parts) and this is a manf. co. kit. If its the same basic kit, its doors open or shut, no medium ground.
Cut some small pieces of aluminum or brass tubing ( very small diameter) (4 pieces for each door), glue them to to the doors, and just above the doors, and one onto the floor by each door, then insert a piece of fine wire into them, so the doors will swing open or closed.
I have the same structure but I just leave the door open. I do the same with my roundhouse and machine shop doors. I don’t think it is worth the trouble to make the doors closeable. It is normal that these industrial type doors would be left open during the day unless you model a cold weather period. Even if you are able to make the doors moveable, I would wonder how long it will hold up to the handling over time.
Moveable doors are not a great idea. I have an Atlas roundhouse that was designed to have moveable doors. The 10 Y O grandson soon proved that they were not very strong when opened & closed often![:(] (I still love him anyway!)[:D]
You still ove the doors/ roundhouse or your grandson? lol
Same note my 12yr old Nephew likes to prove things like he doors etc on structures and likes to prove plastic that holds vehicles axles break to. I still love those vehicles not sure about my nephew tho.
The ‘wooden’ door on this structure is removable by taking the six screws out of the base on the underside to get inside. The door then slides up out of a track. Like someone said, it is either door closed or open, i.e. gone. I suppose you could cut the double doors down the middle and glue them on in a wide open position if you cared to. I don’t think I’m going to care to… [:D]
I model the 50’s so I removed the screws, cut about a 1/4in
piece of wooden door and glued it to the top of the opening. Just
enough shows that you can tell it it in the raised position but you can
still get your cars in.
