WALTHERS DCC FRIENDLY DOUBLE CROSSOVER

I would like to know how to wire the walthers dcc friendly double crossover. I’m building a new layout and have just purchased the digitrax super chief set. Have not been able to find anything on wiring crossovers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Here’s a links for turnout wiring.

If it is NOT part of a reversing section it is simple:

Install on railroad

Run trains. It is READY TO USE.

With that in mind IF you are powering the FROGS then you need to SOLDER feeders from the frog. A Walthers tunout DOES NOT LET a signal pass thru the turnout. YOu MUST have feeders on ALL 4 tracks leading into and leaving the turnout. I have (3) and all are setup with wired frogs (#24awg solid) and work just fine.

If iy is PART OF A REVERSING SECTION then you need to sollow the DCC rule for a reverse section. Length of LONGEST TRAINS plus 2. A Tony’s PSrev does the jub the best.

How do I determine if its a reversing loop?

The old fashoned way is to hand draw the track plan with two differnt colored pens, say red and green. If a red line comes in contact with a green line, you have a reversing loop. If there are no reversing loops the only place the lines will touch is at the frogs, which is why they need to be isolated in some way. This does not have to be a precision drawing, just accurate.

Thanks getting out my colerd pencils and will reply with the results.

None of the lines came in contact with eachother so I guess I’ll be okay.

Install, Test and Enjoy! What kind of switch Motors?

Probably the tortise hare combo only three switches will be powered all the rest will be hand operated with the humpyard hand throws. The double crossover will be using the tortise hare combo.

You have noticed that you need (4) Tortise to run that OR build a bell crank system. I have (4) of these that was (16) Tortoise units. No hares using DS54 from Digitrax that handels (2) double cross each. You can wire (2) per output that is (4) outputs (8) Tortoise.

Well back to wiring!

So your saying that if I use the digitrax ds54 that would eliminate the need for the hares?

Whew! getting expensive are we?

No Kidding, (125) Tortoise, (12) Atlas #66 and all the support stuff to run them.

Still Cheaper than a tune-up on the “F” car [:)]

I will only be powering three switches one double crossover and two regular switches which willonly require six switch moters.
