Does anybody know anything about the current shortage of Walthers Code 83 or when we might expect supply to once again be available?
I believe Shinohara - the manufacturer Walthers uses - does a production run for Walthers about once a year. Shinohara does give Walthers (code 83) preference over the Shinohara-brand track, which tends to go longer intervals between production runs.
I think they (Walthers) got caught a little shorter than usual of inventory due to Atlas’s inability to get enough product to market to meet the demand. This increased demand for the Walthers track without increasing production.
just my thoughts

Sounds to me that, it might soon be Atlas’s turn to be on top. With a lot of people going to other brands of track, made them run short. Interesting! [:D] Some sort of, ‘‘Supply and Demand’’ thingy.

Call Walthers and ask them about availabilty.
Caboose Hobbies has a variety of Walthers turnouts in stock.
Rich
Yes, they do have a variety, but they have no #5R, #5L, #6R, #6L or #8R. Same as everywhere else I’ve looked.
A quick call this morning to Walthers will give you the estimated availability date.
eBay has some of what you are looking for.

Carl425,
Atlas shows, #8 c83 custom line Left and Right in stock:
http://shop.atlasrr.com/p-96-ho-code-83-8-custom-line-turnout-right.aspx
They are probably cheaper than Walthers.
Frank
OK, tried that. They can’t even tell me that there will be more supply this year, let alone a specific date.
That might be what I have to do Frank. I’ve bought about 40 Walthers/Shinohara turnouts in the past few months and was hoping to standardize. I guess it I don’t put them right next to each other it won’t be an issue.
Bummer. Hard to believe that they cannot give an estimate of availability on their own product.
When I finally had to give up on finding Atlas turnouts, I turned to Peco.
Rich
Geeeeezus! 40 turnouts already and you need more? You must be laying track very fast. There’s no way I can install 40 turnouts in 3 months.
Did you try Cherry Creek Hobbies in Cheyenne? They always have lots of track. I order from them when Caboose Hobbies doesn’t have what I need.
Carl,
Try Hiawatha Hobbies. It’s web site shows several of your wants in stock.
Thanks! They had what I needed. So did PWRS, but at a much higher price.
Congrats. Now get to work!
