Walthers HO scale Super Dome passenger car
Up till now this car was only available as a brass model, if you could find one that is. As I model Canadian National it is a most welcome arrival and I have two undecorated versions on order. The CN paint scheme is an easy one to apply, still I wonder how Walthers, when deciding which paint schemes to offer it in, could overlook one of the main operators of these cars? I had the opportunity to travel on Sceneramic cars (CN’s name for the Super Domes) many times on CN’s Super Continental and they were truly a delight. VIA Rail also operated them, but for a shorter period of time. All the same though I’m grateful that someone has come out with an accurate model of this unique and exceptional car.
Very nice car. I got one in each of the two Milwaukee schemes.
I did have some trouble on (what is supposed to be) a 26" radius curve. I removed material about the thickness of a motor tool cut off disk from each side of the center sill behind the 3rd and 4th axles, and also from the corners of the u shaped bracket that holds the couplers and solved the problem.
Too bad Walthers didn’t do a CN and VIA versions of this car.
This a beautiful car. I love how they did the dome glass with the tinting and window frames molded onto the glass and painted. It makes for more realistic looking windows. The colored dome seating is nice departure from everything beige. Window treatments, lighting and hand rails would be a nice addition when the price gets into this range.
