Walthers New Passenger Cars.. HW & LW

Am I the only one with this problem or what. After removeing the roofs to install the light bars, and checking the fit out OK, the roofs will not pop back into the slots that hold them on. I have about a dozen cars and just couple will go back in place. Sorry if this was covered before. Thanks Dave

hope I did this right…my first post

The roofs will only go back on one way. Try reversing ends if you haven’t already. Just be careful not to break the plastic tabs that hold the roofs in place.

please reply only if you have this problem. I know they go on only one way and i dont brreak the tabs…dave

Sorry, just wanted to try to help.

I know, and sorry to be so snappy. This just has me so PO’ed. At first I thought the wires were touching the roof and not letting it fit down right. I did some bending and that helped some.
The internal slot for the tab is in the car interior, not in the car body. I was thinking that may have been pushed down a bit may a tight seal not possable. Only my 6-6-4 cars are the only ones that are OK. All the others the roof can be pushed down but wil not lock in the slot, and there is a light leak strip between the car body and roof

I have a lot of experience taking these Walther’s cars apart, and have a few apart right now. I will fiddle around a bit and see if I can’t recreate the situation and hopefully help you resolve yours. As you very well know these cars can be finicky, but are great once on the rails.

What you may need to do is file down the tops of the walls.

I dn’t know about the lights, haven’t tried installing those yet, but on the latest car my father-in-law purchased, the coupler height was WAY off. It required an underset Kadee to level it out. None of his other new Walthers cars had that problem. Someone’s slipping.
