Walther's new site

Check it out. Ok, Rants and comments next.

Glad to see the black background is gone. I only use the Advanced Search option. I usually find what I want using this search option. They kind of hide the Advanced Search Hyper Link with the blue lettering, at least on my PC’s.

I like it.

(No particular reasons, I just do.)

I wouldn’t mind it except for the fact that they used such a small font size. Tiny black letters on a white background are hard to read. I really preferred the old layout.

When I see a site like that, I press on the Ctrl key and hit the + plus key to make the screen easier to read. I then hit the Ctrl and - minus key to go back to the size screen I normally like.

Hello…

Just took your advice and checked out the new Homepage…Looks good to me. I’m more intrested in the new Series : Rural USA structures. This will be a welcome addition to Walthers structure line.

The Lancaster house appear to be the Faller kit - or at least based on it.

Should be a big hit.

I dun like it, the site is too narrow. Course, I have a widescreen, but the old site fit it automatically. As it is now, there’s too much blinding white on the right side. Maybe if they center the page a little more, and go to a smokier white, or do a mixture with hints of grey.

And the old background was dark blue, might wanna cherck monitor settings.

A BIG improvement, IMO of course.

Dang!! All this time working with computers, I never knew you could do that. Thanks !!

It’s MUCH more accessible. A definite improvement over what they had before.

I’ll reserve judgment till I see if they’ve improved the search engine.

Except for the color, ther Advanced Search page looks the same. No telling if there is a better engine behind it.

I do not see much change at all, except for new colors

I like it. The advanced search feature is now in a handy location and the search results don’t seem to include all the unrelated stuff on the page as before.

They did rearrange things a little bit as far as the layout of the results pages. Can’t really see much of a difference in speed as far as the search engine, though.

Looks good to me. The search feature didn’t work when I tried it. Maybe they’re working on it.

Worked fine for me.

Well, It’s nice that Walther’s has been dragged kicking and screaming into the internet circa 1999. Hopefully we won’t have to wait till 2020 for them to update to 2010 web standards.

Meh. Functionality hasn’t improved, just different colors. I agree, text is hard to read in the search results. Does not scale for higher res wide-screen monitors. Advanced search should be a standard search since basic search is practically useless for anything but very unique items. Still no category shopping - search is the only option for this mega site.

I say updates are an even trade with the previous site, except instead of looking like it was designed in mid 2000’s, now it looks like it was designed in late 1990s.

Better luck next time.

Many users I have found never knew about the Advance feature before. It has worked for me for some time.

I never had a problem with it’s speed. It was the inaccuracy that killed me. All the unrelated things that came up in the search. I talked to 2 Walthers reps at a WGH show and they both shook their heads as to how bad it was…

A basic search (nothing advanced) should match ALL of the words in the search string, not ANY. The few simple searches I tried returned 15+ pages of matches, none of which matched what I was searching for (because I know it doesn’t exist, e.g. athearn 0-8-2). I’d like to see a small number of items that match my search, or nothing, indicating that what I am interested in not there, and I don’t need to waste any time looking.

Basic searches allow quotes (") to be used to match exact sequences of words (e.g. “model railroad”).

There’s a feature in google that allows you to filter out any matches that contains a particular word by preceding that word with a minus sign. This helps filter matches your NOT interested in (e.g. model railroad -walthers).
