How does one determine if the drive is the old one or the new one? Thank you.
The old drive had a short piece of rubber tubing for universal joints in it if memory serves me right. Problems quickly developed and Walthers offered replacement universal joints. The SW-1 is an excellent model. I have one and it is a very good performer. I did replace the handrails with an Athearn SW-7 handrail set and had to bend the handrails for the sides behind the cab to finish up.
The basic drive was the same on all of them. The ‘universal’ was a piece of tubing, and Walthers changed it to a better coupling in mid production. Give them a call - it is a free ‘upgrade’ kit. Your engine will run smoother/quieter…

I’m ok then. Mine has universal joints. Thank you.
