walthers traffic signal controller

Several years ago I bought a Walthers Signal Controller, and two Walthers double sided traffic signals.

I no longer have the instructions and I would like know how many Walthers signals I can add. I am building the Civil War Monument of Pvt Fair in Dayton Ohio, as this is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. This monument was in the middle of an intersection and I would like to model three sides, so I am contemplating adding three Walthers Single sided traffic signals, but I don’t know how many signal heads I can power. That would give me a total of five signal heads. The prototype monument is now down the street from where it originally was, still on Monument, but it did a detour for many years in a park before being moved back to Monument relativley recently.

I have e-mailed Walthers but as of yet I have no reply.

I would appreciate any constuctive comments.

If this is what you have, the answer is on Walthers web site —

Two circuits; probably meaning two sets of signals for a 4-way intersection. Any more than that would be difficult to accomplish because you would have to do a lot of wire splicing.

I have one of these myself that I never got around to installing … still on the “to do” list !

A quick volt-meter check showed the outputs were around 1.5 volts. My thought at the time was have these outputs drive either a TTL logic circuit or some small 1.5 volt relays which in turn would control an unlimited numer of signals through their own power source.

At the time this unit first came out, I was unable to source any 1.5 volt relays, but a recent search turned up numerous low voltage relays. With this new found item, this project just might get off the ground.

Mark.

The instruction sheet says 2 intersections, which I’ve always interpreted to mean 8 light faces.

I’ ve got 3 intersections, each with 3 streets, so I’ve got a total of 9 faces. I made sure to connect 5 faces to one side, and 4 to the other, to get the best balance. They’ve been running like that for quite a few months now, with no problems.

Mr. Beasley,

Thank you very much. That is exactly what I was looking for. I will have a total of 7 faces, 4 faces on one side with three on the other.
