Wanna buy a caboose?

I was in Canon City, Colo this week and noticed a sign on the landmark DRGW 1940s caboose that it will be auctioned off. Here’s a link if you need one for the back yard: http://www.elyauction.com/pages/Auction/Jul16.htm

The snooty NIMBYs in my town have about got the city council convinced to pass an idiotic ordinance that says you can’t have an “inoperable” vehicle on your property for longer than 30 days, even if you have it covered with a tarp - needless to say, the car guys are really up in arms.

I wonder what the city fathers would have to say about a caboose in the back yard?[}:)]

I guess you’d have to also buy an “operable” locomotive to go with it to be legal!

That’s too bad Grayloess. That caboose is about the only noteworthy thing in Canon City besides the Gorge.

I wonder if the Air Force will let me move that thing into the Academy housing. I need a place for a layout anyway!!!

I drove by it last weekend and didn’t notice it was for sale. It certainly isn’t painted the right color for sporting a D&RGW logo. I might have to go back down just to see how much it goes for and who buys it. Unfortunately that is also the day of the big swap meet in Denver.

It looks operable to me. Just because one doesn’t operate it… Or maybe you could roll it back and forth a couple feet each month, sort of like the Baldwin loco in the Philly Museum.
