The name of the connection with CSX is Annpere (one word), with the most obvious of origins: ANN arbor/PERE marquette. This location is at Howell, so these are not separate connections.
Welcome to the team. I wonder if this will effect the Steam Railroading Institute, as they run on GLC rails.
The old AA line has been cut back and dismantled from Thompsonville to the new end-of-line at Yuma, about 20 miles west of Cadillac.
Chris, likely not. When I worked for WATCO they were very much interested in anything that would improve their image and bring in revenue.
The “original” Ann Arbor RR was a very interesting & scenic railroad, including carferry service across Lake Michigan from Elberta, Michigan. I regret having never seen the original “Annie” in service.
I visited the old facilities, yard & dock in Elberta in 1984. There wasn’t much left; a few boxcars, a caboose and the old GT Ferry “The City of Milwaukee” tied up at the pier (now a museum in Manistee, MI?). Service between Thompsonville, MI. and Elberta ended sometime in the mid-80s and it might have officially ended with the termination of cross-lake-Michigan services in April, 1982?
Perhaps someone can clarify this point?
