Water base model paints....

Hello, I have always used Floquil, etc. solvent base paints for the past 30+ years, but I’m getting tired of the hassle with cleaning the airbrush with solvents. I’m thinking of switching to Polly Scale, or similar W/B paints. Can you folks give me a few pointers I might need to know? I’ve always been reluctant to try the W/B stuff because I think it puts on a thicker layer, thus obscuring the fine detail. I’d be willing to give it a try if I know what I’m doing…

Thanks, Todd

I airbrush with Polyscale and Testors Model master acyrilics. I have had better success with Modelmaster. I would definetly stay away from modelflex. I always get orange peel with Modelflex. Polyscale works great but you have to get the mixture correct as well with Modelmaster.

I use Pollyscale paints exclusively. I have found this link to be very helpfull in getting good results with Pollyscale. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=77908&highlight=airbrushing

He gives many good tips on things like what air presure to use, how to thin it, and spraying techniques. Since your used to solvent based paint, there will be a learning curve, but it’s not hard to get the hang of.

John.

I’ve had good luck with Model Master paints.
