Well actually Alec, those units are being auctioned off! That is how CN sells stuff. Also, where do you get the idea the prime mover and traction motors stripped? You cant sell a locomotive without them… You do relalize that units are scrapped ONLY if they cant find a buyer first…right?
Yes, i do know that people have been looking at them. But, people down there, that are IN the yard, tell me they are stripped. If you were on WCinfo you would know. And, its not ALWAYS true if they cant find a buyer, then they scrap it. They decide to put it up for sale, like CN has done before. But, some “private” deals are being made, but im not sure of what the whole deal is. Believe me, most units in the deadline are stripped.

Well, your probably right about the prime mover, but i know some of those units lined up, do actually have the traction motors stripped. Traction motors, as you know, are universal, so CN is using them for other units.

How can the traction motors be used for other units beside an SD45 unless another unit has the same set up. I thought curtain traction motors could only fit under curtain locomotives?

You know more about the insides of diesels than me James. I’m pretty sure you can interchange them with SOME other units, like maybe an SD40-2 or something.

Well I know for a fact that SD40-2s and SD45 sit on the exact same frame so my guess would be they also have the exact same traction motor, since there trucks are almost the same length. But I don’t think you can switch a traction motor out of an SD70 and expect an SD45 traction motor to fit. Of course I maybe wrong about this but I am not sure. If someone knows this answer let me know.

doesnt CN’s main fleet consist of primarily the newer units like the SD70 series and the newer GEs? how many dash 2s are even left in their fleet?
