We need skylights

Scratch building a mill turned into a warehouse & needed some sky lights. I know Grandt had them , but not around now. Campbell makes them, but VERY hard to find. I found the only pack in the area & it only had 1 sky light instead of the 2 stated on the package. Got it for 1/2 price, but that didn’t really help. SS makes them, but they don’t look like any I ever saw. Seems odd that we all have many industrial buildings from the steam/diesel area that could use some sky lights & nobody seems to make them. Walthers has a roof detail kit, but doesn’t contain any sky lights. Looks like I’ll have to scratch build some sky lights. Somebody out there, come to the rescue…thinking maybe Tichy!

How many do you need? I’m kitbashing an N scale roundhouse, and have a dozen or so leftover that I don’t need. I’m reworking the roof, and won’t need the skylights. They’re about 1" x 1.5". PM me if you’re interested. Lee

Thanks a lot Lee, I’m working in HO & was looking for the old A frame type. When I got the Campbell kit home i realized that it only had 1 frame, but 4 clear styrene window inserts, so I’m in the process of framing them out, adding sides & window dividers…glad I’m not in N scale right now! We only have 2 stores in the area & both of them are not replacing any detail parts that are sold. One isn’t replacing strip wood either. In fact the strip wood is in the back room under boxes of who knows what??

Walthers shows them in stock by Campbells. You can order them there or have you local hobby shop get them for you.

Thanks Mark. have already started making them, but should probably order some seeing that they seem to be the only ones making them & IMO Campbell seems a little shaky. Still can’t believe skylights aren’t more popular considering how many of us model the steam/diesel era with many visible roofs to detail. Jerry

The old Tyco brick buildings included a sprue of details that included a skylight as well as vents, stacks, benches and a cat. I am not sure who markets them now, I do not see them in the Walthers catalog.

Yes, there are a number of older kits that included 1 skylight. Most of them are hard to find & too expensive to purchase for only 1 sky light. I think I remember a bakery that included a skylight also. Doesn’t seem too difficult to make an etched brass one that could be made in 1 pc…just fold. That is, if you had the equipment.
