We now have sound effects...

Hi gang.

A friend of mine bought a train sound effects box about a year ago that he played with for maybe about five minutes then got bored with it and sat it aside, and it’s been collecting dust ever since. I was over at his house the other day and happen to see it on a shelf in his train room closet, so I asked him if he was ever going to do anything with it and he said no. I then asked him if he’d be interested in selling it. He said Mark, if you want it I’ll let you have it for, ummm, $30.00 ?. sold! I replied. Anyways, I just finished installing it under my layout a little while ago. It’s really cool. It has both steam and diesel sounds, a conductor calling out “all aboard”, diesel idle, steam loco idle, several different types of horns and whistles, etc. And for $30.00 you can’t beat it…

I have something like that in a box under my layout. An MRC sound station 312. I’m currently using an MRC diesel sound box on a 5.1 surround sound system.

I think sound is the most overlooked aspect of model railroading, yet it has the greatest effect! We spend countless hours uber-detailing a box car to the nth degree, yet somehow we are content to run it in a silent world? I added sound to my garden railroad, both onboard and passive and all I can say is WOW! The railroad is now alive and doing well thank you!

$30 eh? Now that’s a good deal if I’ve ever seen one!
