Weathering Books

I am looking for a good book that gives details on how to weather freight cars. I have seen a few listed in various places but I don’t know much about them. I have just started trying to weather cars and need a book that gives a lot of details and tips.

Thanks in advance,

George

The best and maybe the only book on weathering I know is "the art of weathering by Martyn Welch published by Wild Swan. This is a British book so you may have to go to Amazon to get this excellent publication. However as an alternative look to the web - Google weathering and see what turns up there’s lot out there. I think there is even a Yahoo group devoted to the subject.

Here’s a link to a Forum discussing weathering, with photos - you might find some useful info there, as there is input from several individuals.

The best book on weathering I found is actually a video… You can’t do better than this for intro and intermidate work

There is a very good Kalmbach book by Jeff Wilson on painting and weathering. A good reference for things like thinning ratio and air pressure for various kinds of paint. Lots of tips and techniques. As said though, nothing beats diving in a trying things out. No book or video can beat actual experience, some of which will be trial and error. If you’re worried about messing up your ‘good stuff’ then get some $1 cars at the next train show and use them for practice.

Thanks very much for the help. I will take a look and see what I can come up with.

Frisco1519,

Send me an e-mail to wn5L(at)sbcglobal.net and I’ll e-mail you weathering articles. I have access to EBSCOHost, a depository of magazine articles on the Uni of OK server. I’m also a Frisco modeler in Oklahoma.

Thanks,
