Weathering Resources

Hey Gents-

Before I’m chastised for repeating a topic, I did search for this and didn’t have any luck. I currently am building a fleet of rolling stock, and locomotives for use at the club I joined. It’s “free run”, meaning you can run what you like. Anyway, I focus on the rolling stock because my apartment is small, and it’s all I have room for. I’ve recently taken a liking to weathering, and super detailing (to my abilities) the cars and traction I have. I’ve read a few books (Soeberg, and Koester), and they are fountains of knowledge.

As far as weathering goes, I know everyone has their own “best way”. What I’m looking for is an online forum, or website similar to this that focuses on the weathering and detailing portion of our fine hobby. If anyone knows any good places I can land, and soak up the info, I’d appreciate it! Thanks everyone.

Kyle

The two I know of and belong to are, http://protoweathering.com/SMF/index.php and http://www.modeltrainsweathered.com/ Protoweathering is free and is a good source of help/info, and while MTH is a pay site their are loads of good info in older threads.

You might try doing a search on YouTube for model railroad weathering. There are a lot of videos posted there.

Here’s a long shot, but might be worth a try: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/weathering/

I personally feel weathering is one of those there is no right way topics. Using an airbrush, weathering chalks powders, paints etc. all work and look good I guess it’s what u feel most comfortable doing but I myself not being a master of any one particular method like to use them all. as not everything on the prototype weathers exactly the same. Not all cars look like they are ready for the scrap heap either. for me that way too much weathering. So I’ll do some cars with the air brush some with chalks some light some heavy. It’s pretty much a what my is mood is kinda thing. I would say give each one a try and see what u like best. My only suggestion is to go pick up either in the classified or maybe your LHS has a consignment table where u can find cheap train set quality rolling stock your best served to learn your techniques on cheap junk then $25.00 and up ready to run cars.
