I have a four day weekend starting tommorrow and everyday of that weekend Im going to be out railfanning in Elmhurst. Is the any special engines or trains coming through (CNW, Heritage Units…etc) over the weekend. Colin
while in Elmhurst see if the model railroad club is open so you can warm up for a bit inside.
good luck

Last I heard, Colin, the only Heritage unit in our area was 1988, the Katy unit–I’ll have to check and see where it’s working (possibly on turns to Global 3). The Olympic units and the Two Amigos are doing their respective things (Belvidere and Global), as far as I know.
Beware of frostbite tomorrow. Once you get it, that spot becomes more susceptible (I had it once on the top of my left ear). I’d stay very close to the station!
Might be able to join you Monday, but the grandchildren get first dibs.

Colin:
As I recall, the first north-south street east of the Elmhurst, Ill. depot is York Rd. Immediately south of that road crossing is row of small cafes and restaurants and each has at least a few tables with a view of the U.P. Geneva Subdivision.
If you wish to have an “adult libation,” the 100 South Chop House has an excellent bar, one where the patrons sit and face northwards towards the tracks. Normally the wooden window shutters are closed, but I’ve been known to reach around and crack open one of those shutters at the very west end of the bar so that my friends Charlie Tanqueray, Martini & Rossi plus their girlfriend Olive and I can enjoy the passing parade on the mainline.
Anyway, have fun, stay alert, and be mindful of the cold weather. /s/ Bob
I love 100 South! Great Steaks there! Colin
Just stay away from those friends of Bob’s!
(I’ve never been to that establishment–the shutters scared me off!–but remember well when it was the Paradise Restaurant. Dino still owns the building, I think, and claims to remember us from before we were married–not true, but he watched our daughters grow up, and we watched his son grow up, too. Back then, the windows facing the tracks were wide open.)
Bob, Colin’s still in high school!
