Weekend Photo FUN 20 -22 May 2016

Gidday All, well I’ve previously got into a bit of bother referring to other forum members’ comments but like a Bear in a china shop…[sigh] [(-D]

So anyhow in the Digital Camera thread…

Mornin Bear It’s 5:30 AM Friday Morning in Houston Texas

and I just finished my 2nd Decoder install for the week

Here’s a video of the first one

Here’s the Second one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_Oqh-6iLf0

Last Sunday 1:87 #9 met 1:1 #9 at SMS lines.

I also had the chance to do a bit of 1:1 modeling helping rivet a piece of firebox sheet replacement. I am the one running the hot rivets over in the video.

Good morning all from the sunny and mild Northeast Ohio!

Nothing finished this week, as I am in the middle of decaling a couple of 60’ Auto Parts cars, and there are a lot of decals to apply to each of these cars.

But never fear, I have a couple of photographs I took with my I-Phone at the club in Strongsville, OH.

Athearn GP38-2’s with a loaded coil steel train!

This is from last weeks NMRA Division 4 layout tour, I usually bring a train that ran in the Cleveland area, and I chose my NKP GP9’s with a mixed freight. Showing a meet with Ron Spiga’s C&NW Grain Train.

Thanks for looking!

Rick Jesionowski

Hey all. Nice work there Bear, how’d you get the styrene to bend like that?

This is the major project I got done this week- my first laser kit.

May work on another Wheeling hopper today, I’m currently at about 13 or 14, and I want a train of about 20 or so, plus a mix of other roads.

Vacation ends on Saturday night, and she;s probably got my schedule to say I have to show up at 8:00am on Sunday morning…

Watching the train go by.

Good start to WPF guys. Nothing new on the BRVRR, although I have updated my website.

Here is one from 2009:

My cows are not interested either.

Keep the photos and ideas coming guys. Thanks to you WPF is always the best thread of the week.

Bear,

I’ll join with you, Ed, and Wayne in encouraging people to share more pics. We’re often our own worst critics, in terms of both the modeling and the photography, but so long as you’re sharing info and ideas, it’s all good – really. Consider the wide variance in skills levels in both areas on display here in WPF every week. And you hear plenty of encouragement given to all, regardless. This thread is about doing so that your own skills improve. None of us was born perfect and most here don’t worry too much over showing that we’re not, so long as we’re having fun.

That’s an intriguing DP flat you’ve got on the workbench, Bear. Maybe something for the ferry, since IIRC high-wide loads used it to bypass too tight tunnels in Detroit?

Terry, good info the beginning decoder installer. Been thinking about doing some layout videos myself as a way to introduce the layout to those signing up to visit and operate before or after the NMRA National in Indy in early July. More infor here: http://www.nmra2016.org/#!opsig/c1ygl

RDGCasey, Working on a steam loco is a satisfying experience. Like putting down concrete, you know your work will likely long outlive you.

Rick, Great action shots!

Jimmy, Nice work on the kit. What brand? I’m guessing it’s an old school sand tower with buckets handed over to fill the sandboxes?

Grampys Trains, Love the depth of field in that shot.

Now a few shots from a recent college graduate…[swg]

Doing lots of testing to run down a few persistent irritations so they won’t irritate the OPSIG groups coming in about six weeks. The main is almost wholly ballasted to Snowden, except for a short stretch where the track is mostly not visible between Camp 10 and Black Cat Junction. Here’s the local rolling behind a diesel in Purgatory.

Mike, it’s a GC laser kit. It’s supposed to represent part of the PRR facilities in their Shire Oaks yard in the 1950’s.

Thanks for throttling-up another episode of WPF, Bear!

It seems as if activity has “Waned” (no pun intended[:-^]) since the last two posts on the digital camera thread… but there 'ya go. At least here we HAVE photos!

I’m looking forward to seeing your progression on that depressed center flat. Do you have a load for it in mind?

I watched both of your decoder install videos, C&O! Nice work indeed—and timely, too. I have two of the latest WOWs with GE and Alco sounds and was looking for a candidate. I have a pair of Kato RS-3s that just might go under the knife (or soldering iron) later this week thanks to your tutorial.

RDG Casey, I wonder who the spectator is that’s sitting on the fireman’s side running board step? At first I thought it was LION but his nose is too pointy?

Nice shots as usual, Rick! Yes, we’re beginning to get some sunshine here but it sure gets COLD in the evenings.

Good to see you take up a challenge on the laserkit, Jimmy. Is that a caboose servicing platform? Looking Good!

Grampy and Allan, you have great shots of my two favorites, PRR and NYC! [Y]

I didn’t get around to too many projects this week but I did manage to get a video posted of the new Broadway Limited S2 Turbine.

The video is of the locomotive running right out of the box on default settings and address 3. Later I went to make some changes, on the main, and whatever I did it caused about twenty of my other locomotives (about 10% of what was on the layout) to acquire the same address 6200, as the turbine!! [banghead]

The engines affected were completely random. In some cases only one engine out of five or six on the same track, all with the same decoder, were affected… scratch head? Electronics is wonderful… until the Gremlins take over!

Now, on to more Great Stuff!

[edit:] Mike, I

Two projects today, one freight car and a front loader…

Lots going on at Boothbay Railway Village this week. Heading up to the Model RR Building I caught the new diesel, Edaville #3, soon to be BRV #3, Whitcomb Diesel arriving at Thorndike Station with a load of bus tour passengers.

A short video:

Over at the model RR, I took an overall photo to update the museum website

I finished a kitbashed apartment building. Still need scenery and a fence to complete the scene

A closeup of the stairs, a scene needs people doing things to bring it alive

On one of our volunteers brought in the scratch built Linekin Market with attached post office

That is the supervisor that has a musical tune, played a few time thoughout the day, to keep everyone’s spirits up. [(-D]

Bear!

The frame looks great!

Dave

RDG Casey:

Very interesting video!

The 1:87 vs 1:1 pictures offer a very neat perspective too.

Dave

Gidday Terry, only two decoder installations this week???[swg][(-D]

RDG Casey, it must be a real thrill to have worked on both scales. Interesting to hear the comment on the video that the rivet “sounded right”.

Rick I must admit that both you and

Ed,

That wheel broke some years ago and now I can’t find the darn thing, thus it’s propped up waiting on parts.

Tony,

Nice cars[Y]

George, Great layout, love those wide aisles.

Bear, please do start a threard, this project deserves one. And thanks for your supportive PMs, they really help.[angel]

We are open to the public, so designed the aisles to ADA standards. There is room at the ends for a powered wheelchair to turn around. We also have a ramp at the entrance door.

A great layout it is. I had the opportunity to visit it last fall and I am planning to visit it again next June.

Bear, Thanks for the WPF start-up. Those are some mighty fine curves you’ve got there.

Tony73, Sure would like to know how you achieved such a nicely weathered roof on the CSX boxcar?

Nearly back up to speed and able to enjoy some modeling time at the bench.

Thanks to all and regards, Peter
